Single use cotton pads and makeup wipes are only used for a few seconds before they’re thrown away. And those convenient makeup wipes are not so convenient after all. They actually contain plastic fibres that take about 100 years to break down! Not to mention the harsh chemicals they contain, like sulfates, parabens and alcohol, that irritate and dry out your skin.
Nourish your skin by removing makeup with natural oils:
Make sure you remove makeup and sunscreen before cleansing. If your cleanser is too busy trying to wash off your foundation and concealer, it won’ be able to penetrate your pores for a deeper clean. Makeup is oil-based, so we need to use oil to remove it. Oil attracts, softens and dissolves built-up oily substances like make-up, debris and excess sebum. Using oil also prevents dehydration that can be caused by the wiping motion and harsh ingredients in most store-bought makeup removers and wipes.
Most oils are great for removing makeup, even olive oil. But for some extra nourishment why not try castor oil, coconut, grape seed, hemp, or jojoba.
Warm about 1/2 a teaspoon of oil in your palms then massage over entire face in a circular motion for a few minutes for an oil pulling effect. Use your makeup wipe to gently wipe the oil away in soft stokes, ensuring to dab for the more delicate areas such as eyes and lips.
Your makeup wipes come with their own wash bag, so just pop them in the washing machine with your regular loads. To remove any heavy makeup stains, soak prior to washing.
